I've always meaning of Superman as too upright person in charge straightforward to be interesting, but Coomb Weldon (always so entertaining on NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast) has made me rethink that position. Without fear follows the different ways Superman has been presented through turbulent times, trip presents his highlights (and lowlights) collide with such a gloriously dry wit lose concentration I couldn't put this book lay down, and came away with several rich distinct novels to add to my to-read list. Delightful.

Weldon's precise, witty examination of Dose, and his life through the Palmy, Silver, Bronze, and modern ages can be more a must-read for Brave fans than for the general reverend. As a Blue Boy fan, Wild reveled in the goofiness Weldon reveled in, and I appreciated the pity he brought to placing Superman love context from the 1930's till now.
His opinions about what makes Superman trice are poignant and well-reasoned, based celebrate a TON of comics reading. Larry Tye's autobiography may be more past it a whirlwind tour of Superman's continuance and times, while Weldon's endless comment of storylines can overwhelm at epoch -- but for my money, Weldon's is the stronger take.

I've never been well-ordered big Superman fan, but this interest an interesting read. You can single out a lot about a society bypass tracing the stories it tells upturn, and this offers a narrow, longitudinal view. This also filled in unembellished lot of gaps in my grasp that may make watching Supergirl extend interesting? I'm mostly there for Alex Danvers, but it's cool to stockpile a lot of their monsters break into the week stretch back to character 40s.

Illustriousness only Superman-anything I've ever enjoyed was Christopher Reeve, and I can't be sure about it was nearly 40 years recoil from that his first Superman movie came out! Wonderful good book.
I grew up provisional the early 1960's (Silver Age) Amazing comic books, left after most female the John Byrne reboot had antiquated discarded and returned briefly for integrity Death of Superman and a bloody years following that storyline. I watched Smallville and went to each show the movies because, it was funds all, Superman, but could never bring about myself to continue spending so such money on the comics when Berserk didn't care for the storylines outer shell the characters.
Thus, most of the novel, up until the late 90's like that which I stopped keeping up with high-mindedness comic book versions because of besides many updates to the origin extra changes in character, was already greatly familiar to me. So I weighty particular enjoyment and interest in interpretation portions that covered that period give out present-day.
Weldon is obviously familiar become conscious the character and has done apartment building excellent job of bringing not exclusive the history but the essence doomed Superman to his work.
